About Iredell County

There is a genteel grace inherent in Iredell County that reaches as much to the heart as to the eye. It is made up of communities steeped in history and rich in tradition. Nestled in the green, rolling hills of North Carolina's Piedmont region, Statesville conveys a sense of quietude; a panorama of Victorian era manners with its four lovingly preserved historic districts, softly rolling farmland and industry, carefully applied to create a well-balanced vitality and economic strength. Mooresville is a town in the southern end of Iredell County. Mooresville is best known as the home of many NASCAR racing teams and drivers, along with an IndyCar team and its drivers, as well as racing technology suppliers, which has earned the city the nickname "Race City USA." Also located in Mooresville is the corporate headquarters of Lowe's Companies and Universal Technical Institute's NASCAR Technical Institute. Lake Norman is a 34 mile long, man-made lake that surrounds half of the county. It has 520 miles of shoreline and offers numerous attractions to explore. Also, in the center of Iredell County is the quaint town of Troutman serving as a gateway to Lake Norman.

Iredell County is less than an hour away from Carolina's largest city, Charlotte, with its progressive business community, international airport, the NBA's Hornets and the NFL's Carolina Panthers, and the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, which hosts many acclaimed touring concerts, plays and musicals. The horizon broadens further with the cultural and educational opportunities of Winston-Salem and Greensboro within easy reach on I-40. Travel north on I-77 or west on I-40 and snow skiing, hiking and camping activities abound.

Iredell County is a canvas dotted with color and energy that is especially evident in the many annual festivals and events, parks, lakes and abundant outdoor activities. Beautiful Lake Norman, one of two lakes in the area, features broad expanses of water perfect for sailing, wind surfing, water skiing and fishing. Thanks to a mild climate, residents can use the numerous facilities much of the year while a variety of recreational programs and classes are provided by the local Recreation and Parks Departments to enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the area. If music is your fancy, visit Union Grove in the north end of Iredell County. Union Grove is home to the oldest continuous "Ole Time Fiddlers Contest" in North America.
