Iredell Memorial Hospital Earns "A" Grade for Safety

Iredell Memorial Hospital has earned the highest possible rating for patient safety in a new national report, ranking higher than any other hospital in Iredell County.

The Leapfrog Hospital safety guides assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S. Iredell Memorial is the only hospital in Iredell County to receive an “A,” and one of 844 hospitals to receive that grade nationwide.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Iredell Memorial, part of Iredell Health System, constantly updates protocols and follows nationally accepted guidelines to guard against infection and injury. Iredell Memorial received scores above the national average for preventing issues such as falls, MRSA infections and death from treatable complications after surgery.

"This recognition is a reflection of the daily commitment we have at Iredell Health System to making safety a top priority,” said Iredell Health System CEO and President Ed Rush. “We are proud of the consistent effort from our staff as we work to provide the best care possible for our patients.”

“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”
