The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to
Iredell Memorial Hospital’s Pathology and Medical Laboratory Services
Department, a national recognition based on results of a recent on-site
inspection. By consistently meeting the high standards of the CAP, the
laboratory has held accreditation for more than 30 years.
The Laboratory Services Department performs analysis on blood, fluid and
tissue samples for inpatients and outpatients at the hospital. Physicians
use those results to properly diagnose patients and provide the most effective
The facility’s medical director, Georgia Olympio, MD, congratulated
the laboratory staff for their hard work to earn this achievement.

every day, for every patient,” said Dr. Olympio. “This accreditation
demonstrates our commitment to serve our community with the highest quality
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation
Program as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s
own inspection program.
The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard
of care for all laboratory patients. Inspectors examined the laboratory’s
records and quality control of procedures for the previous two years.
CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment,
facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
