Iredell Memorial Hospital Lab Recognized for Excellence

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Iredell Memorial Hospital’s Pathology and Medical Laboratory Services Department, a national recognition based on results of a recent on-site inspection. By consistently meeting the high standards of the CAP, the laboratory has held accreditation for more than 30 years.

The Laboratory Services Department performs analysis on blood, fluid and tissue samples for inpatients and outpatients at the hospital. Physicians use those results to properly diagnose patients and provide the most effective treatment.

The facility’s medical director, Georgia Olympio, MD, congratulated the laboratory staff for their hard work to earn this achievement.

“We are proud of our laboratory staff who provide continuous quality, every day, for every patient,” said Dr. Olympio. “This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to serve our community with the highest quality laboratory services.”

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.

The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. Inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the previous two years. CAP inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
The Iredell Memorial Lab is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
