The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) has certified Yvette-Marie
Pellegrino, MD, as an ABOM diplomate, specially trained in obesity management and care.
ABOM diplomates undergo intensive training in obesity management and care
and pass a thorough examination to achieve this designation. Dr. Pellegrino
is now one of approximately 2,000 ABOM physician diplomates in the United
States and Canada and approximately 50 in North Carolina with the certification
in obesity medicine.
As a part of the certification process, Dr. Pellegrino took courses through
the Obesity Medicine Association to meet the tough requirements set by the ABOM.
“I wanted to offer my patients evidence-based weight loss options
that would enable them to not only lose weight, but learn how to keep
it off,” said Dr. Pellegrino. “Through the courses offered
by the Obesity Medicine Association I have learned so much information
and developed many tools and techniques to change lives.”
Dr. Pellegrino is dedicated to reducing the effects of obesity on the
community. She practices family medicine at Pellegrino Family Medicine
in Mooresville, part of the Iredell Physician Network. She is also the
lead physician of Iredell Healthy Weight, a comprehensive, medically-based
weight loss program.
“It is much more satisfying to treat obesity and see someone shine,
then treat the complications of obesity which include diabetes, high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnea, joint disease, depression,
many cancers, heart disease and early death,” said Pellegrino.
The American Board of Obesity Medicine maintains standards for assessment
and credentialing physicians. ABOM collaborates with the National Board
of Medical Examiners (NBME) to administer the annual credentialing exam.
