Iredell Health System has purchased more than 17 acres of land in Mooresville, near exit 36 off Interstate 77, and soon plans to expand on the services it already offers in southern Iredell County.
The acquisition demonstrates the Health System’s continued commitment to the Mooresville-South Iredell market. Currently IHS operates 6 medical practices in Mooresville, but has quickly outgrown existing space at several locations, including its practices at the intersection of Brawley School Road and Williamson Road. New providers and practices continue to be added as well.
“Since our beginning in 1954, Iredell Health System has been owned by all the citizens of Iredell County. We have been dedicated to the health and wellness of all the communities we serve. As healthcare continues to evolve, we recognize the growing importance of having more options for quality, cost-effective healthcare close by,” said John Green, President and CEO of Iredell Health System. “It was clear to us with the success of our Brawley School location and the growth we’re seeing in the Mooresville-South Iredell market that our next step to meet the needs of the community had to include the land and space to grow.”
The Health System plans to build a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center that will include CT, ultrasound, mammography and x-ray. A certificate of need has been submitted to the state and is pending approval. There are also plans for a 24-hour urgent care center, and will be the only 24-hour healthcare facility in the area outside of a hospital emergency room. The new space will also house a medical office building – plans for that space are forthcoming. All construction is scheduled for completion around the end of 2020.
“Our patients are telling us they prefer not to travel to us to get the care they need and deserve. We’ve been listening,” Green said. “This land purchase allows us to continue to expand on our services already offered in the Mooresville area, while adding new and other innovative service lines as well.”
Iredell Health System has grown significantly in the past few years, becoming the largest healthcare entity in Iredell County. That expansion includes reaching beyond Iredell to surrounding counties. The Health System now has more than 20 clinics and practices, as well as Iredell Memorial Hospital.
According to Green, healthcare across the country is changing dramatically, with an emphasis on delivering healthcare in more convenient and cost effective ways to consumers. After completing the land purchase, the Health System set out to determine what services should occupy the new space to best meet the needs of the individuals living in the Mooresville-South Iredell area. The planning process included research to determine what has worked best for similar communities across the country and included citizen input.
“We are excited about this acquisition,” said David Green, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Iredell Health System. “We look forward to creating another space that helps Iredell Health System achieve its mission to inspire wellbeing — together.”
