Iredell Health System and the Iredell Physician Network are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Afshan Husain to Statesville Family Practice.
Husain earned her medical degree at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan and completed her Family Medicine Residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. Throughout medical school and during her residency she provided care to many underserved patients with multiple comorbidities, working in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as in a COVID-19 intensive care unit.
In addition to general medicine, her experiences thus far have helped her gain valuable insight into the integration, teamwork, and social aspects of a medical team, including the roles of care coordinators, social workers, and case managers. Husain also has research and teaching experience, including as a clinical instructor at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio.
She has a patient-first approach to medical care.
“I believe each individual that comes in to see a physician has their own complexity of issues. I am dedicated to my patients and will go above and beyond for them,” she said.
Husain enjoys helping patients gain a solid understanding of their conditions and building rapport with others, learning about each person’s background so she can provide resources and support to help each individual be their best self.
She emphasizes patient education and holistic care.
“I do not believe one size fits all,” she said.
Husain is fluent in Hindi and Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. She enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. New to Statesville, she looks forward to becoming involved in the community.
